Woman with matSo you want to start eating better and lose some weight.  That’s great!  But it seems so hard to get started.  How will you ever choose the best approach with so many diets and options from which to choose? I want to lose weight but where do I start? Before changing habits or spending a great deal of money, its best to find out where you stand now.  You’ll want to find out what your body mass index (BMI) is.  Compare your BMI to what is considered a healthy BMI and begin keeping a log of what you eat and how much exercise you get each day. Some people may think to themselves, “Why?  I know what I eat.”  But the truth is, you may be surprised to see some of your eating habits.  Eating is a natural habit and you may not even notice that you are eating too many fatty foods or snacking when you’re bored.  Creating an inventory of what you are eating now gives you an idea of what needs to change. The really big step in losing weight is making a true long-term commitment to being healthy.  Losing weight will not happen overnight and you will not be finished at any point in time.  Staying healthy is a lifelong process that requires the will power to make the change. Which weight loss plan or diet will work? Basically, any diet or weight loss plan will work for everyone.  Many books can be found in bookstores or in local libraries.  There is no need to spend loads of money on the new popular diet infomercial.  Most diets rely on eating less and eating low calorie, low fat foods.  But losing weight is entirely different from maintaining weight loss.  Maintaining your weight loss requires a different strategy.
